We have a confession to make π₯Ί - coffee is cool!
So now it's out! We also enjoy a Flat White from time to time.
Of course, the espresso cannot be missing after the much too delicious pizza from Capvin at Rosenthaler Platz. And so far, none of our friends had the idea to ask us for an espresso martini without coffee. Without beating about the bush, coffee is nice, no question!
That's why we don't want to badmouth coffee, but rather show where the differences between brown soup and our super delicious matcha lie π€ͺ.
HALT STOP: If you are already wondering what makes good matcha tea and where the green colour comes from, please follow this link: Why is matcha so cool?
The similarities
Okay, let's start with the similarities between matcha tea and coffee. We can no longer imagine our everyday life without both drinks. We usually need hot water for both. Both wake us up and save us a Monday morning or two, especially if the last episode of Stranger Things the night before was too exciting πΊπΏ.

If we dryly compare the caffeine content, one could quickly think that the green shining matcha powder with its approximately 6 times higher caffeine content per gram should easily win the race.
But beware, you need far less for a Matcha bowl than for a large cup of coffee. For example, we need just 1-2g of high-quality Matcha powder for our Caramel Matcha. For a good cup of coffee, about 13g. So the absolute amount of caffeine balances out again in the end.
Why the same amount of caffeine does not lead to exactly the same effect is explained in the next section ‡οΈ.

The differences
To do this, we first have to look at how caffeine works in the first place. It makes us feel alert even in the early morning, stimulates our concentration and also raises our blood pressure and pulse rate. It also stimulates our brain and central nervous system and gives us a slight feeling of euphoria.
So far so good. The biggest difference is how the ingredients are packaged in the two pick-me-ups. Unlike coffee, the caffeine in matcha teas is in a bound form. This affects the way our body can process the substances. Don't worry, you can leave the organic book at home π€π©π¬.
Because it is actually only important to know that the caffeine in our favourite green tea, unlike in coffee, is not already released in the stomach, but only in the intestine and can thus achieve a somewhat slower but at the same time longer-lasting effect.
So you can decide whether you need a short intense push (incl. crash afterwards) or rather a gentle increase for the whole day. Besides, you don't have to worry about shaking after the ground tea and you don't have to struggle with that inner nervousness - if you do, it's probably because of your everyday life lol.
In addition, the ingredients of coffee strongly stimulate acid production, which can quickly lead to heartburn. Matcha tea, on the other hand, contains a multitude of valuable ingredients and is packed with antioxidants as well as the amino acid L-theanine, making it the perfect partner when you finally want to start your "healthy lifestyle" after the last hangover.
Apart from classic Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha is also great for baking or cooking. There are no limits to creativity. ππ§
But now for the biggest difference. Did you know that SummerRain Matcha is at least 3.82 times cooler than coffee? No? Well, that's certainly in the eye of the beholder, but then you probably haven't heard of our Matcha Lemonade ππΉ.

A different kind of coffee detox?
Have you ever thought about a coffee detox? If not, it's high time you did. Just two weeks is enough to break down the caffeine tolerance you've built up over time, and believe us, nothing compares to the effect of the first espresso after your coffee abstinence.
But the way there can be exhausting, plagued by fatigue and headaches. Especially for coffee drinkers, it can be a real ordeal. If it weren't for our knight in his shining green armour πβοΈ.
We have tried it ourselves and are sure that matcha tea is the perfect way to leave coffee in the drawer for once without having to completely do without that little kick in the morning. At the same time, the benefits of matcha speak for themselves. β¨

Final Words
We firmly believe that black-and-white thinking does more harm than good in most cases, and the same is true for us when it comes to matcha vs coffee. Both products are great and have their advantages and disadvantages. Honestly, we don't want to miss either of them and believe they can even complement each other super well. While coffee can give you the ultimate boost here and there, matcha shines with its long-lasting effect and without the dreaded post-caffeine slump.
In the end, you drink what you feel like. Sometimes you're more in the mood for a good old Flat White and sometimes you crave a Matcha Latte. And you know what? It's a good thing too, eating the same thing every day wouldn't be fun π΅π€β.
